It
is the city which represents Paraguay in this geographical triangle, and
has been recognized in 1996 as the third commercial center in the world,
after Miami and Hong Kong by Forbes, US magazine.
It was founded in 1957 and was originally called Ciudad President Stroessner.
It is the capital city of Alto Paraná state and is the second most
important city of Paraguay. Its population is of 165.000 inhabitants.
Every
day, a great number of people crosses from Brazil to buy in this shopping
city.
Although traffic is really difficult at the Puente de la Amistad (bridge)
which links Foz do Iguaçu with Ciudad del Este, there are big shopping malls
with
special offers of different origins, like alcoholic beverages, electronic
artifacts , perfumes and cosmetics, at tax free prices.
Paraguay also offers the Paraná
